The Challenge

For the past couple years I have tried to challenge myself to sacrifice something that I value which either had become too powerful in my life (soda ’08) or was simply just not good for me (fastfood ’09). This year I threw around a similar idea which was to give up all forms of fried potatoes for all of 2010 but to be honest giving up fastfood for 2009 ended up being much easier than I expected it to be. I began talking with family over the holidays about my upcoming year and I was encouraged add something rather than subtract.

The idea of adding hadn’t occurred to me.

The immediate thought was exercise. I mean for nearly a decade now I’ve been talking about losing weight and done well at points and not so well at other points and I didn’t want that to be my addition.

Last night I was reading Malcolm Gladwell’s What the Dog Saw and it suddenly hit me that I can, and should, read a book a week. I will focus on marketing in at least half of the books (26 marketing books minimum) and I will also be reading the Bible in historical order (the plan can be found here).

I sent out a tweet inviting others to join and Phil Santillan (@philsantillan) will be joining me as a co-author of this blog. Looking forward to this year.
